How to create the perfect project

November 17, 2021

Hello and welcome to iknowa!

This article will walk you through setting up a project and give some best practice advice for perfecting each section; as the more information you give, the more tradespeople can provide accurate quotes.

Lets begin!

Laptop on a table open to the iknowa website

Once you have logged in as a project owner, your first step will be to click on ‘post project’. This will take you to the project details page.

Project details

This is the most important section of the project as it contains the key details for quoting.

You can start by choosing whether the project is an emergency or standard. Choosing emergency will alert tradespeople in the area that your project is urgent. An example of this can be someone causing damage to a flat whilst moving out and needing to fix it before giving the keys back.

Project name — Give an accurate name to the project eg ‘multiple room refurbishment’ or ‘energy performance certificate needed’.

Postcode — Put the postcode where the project is located as our platform will match the project to qualified tradespeople in the area.

Category — Go through the dropdown and click on all categories that are relevant to your project. This is important because it matches the tradespeople who have the skills necessary for your job.

Don’t worry if you don’t get them right the first time, you can always go back and edit them.

Project description — Include as much information as possible because this can help the tradesperson accurately quote.

Top tip — Even if you do not think something is relevant, include it. The more information the better.

Status

You can select a date range for when you want the project to begin, which will help match you with tradespeople who are available during your timeframe.

If you are not in a rush, you can select tradesperson to suggest when they are free.

Materials

Materials: Choose whether you have the materials for the project or not, as this will help the tradesperson better understand any additional costs to the project.

Material/Equipment Information: Include any information that you feel is relevant. You can link to any materials.

Attachments

Include any images you think are relevant, such a room in its current condition for a refurbishment, or a fuse board for an electrical certificate.

Once you are ready and have uploaded the images, you can finish by clicking on ‘post project’.

A pop-up will appear where you can see completed sections and read the terms and conditions. If you are happy, click on post project.

Common problems

  • My images are not saving

Before continuing onto the next section, wait at least 5 seconds after uploading your images. This allows them time to upload fully onto the platform.

  • My sections are not saving

Whilst completing your project, make sure you are continuing onto the next sections by clicking on ‘next section’ in the bottom right corner.
